Texas Republican Representative Troy Nehls said Wednesday that slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk would have been Jesus' "13th disciple" if he lived during biblical times.

The remarks came during a House of Representatives hearing with FBI Director Kash Patel, whose handling of the investigation into Kirk's shooting has drawn questions from across the political spectrum.

Why It Matters
Kirk, 31, a father of two, was credited with energizing young Republicans and aiding President Donald Trump's 2024 return to the White House. His Arizona-based group, Turning Point USA, drew evangelical Christian youth into politics through social media, a popular podcast and campus events.
