CORPUS CHRISTI A Corpus Christi jury has awarded a Corpus Christi man $25 million after he was assaulted in 2008 at an uptown building.
Leo Davila, a night security officer for American Bank Plaza, was patrolling the plazas loading dock Sept. 9, 2008, when he was confronted by a man who tried to break into the building, said Robert Hilliard, one of Davilas attorneys.
When Davila tried to stop the man, he attacked Davila. Davila sustained brain injuries, crushed facial bones and blindness, attorney Ruben Herrera said.
Davilas attorneys, Hilliard and Thomas J. Henry, argued during last weeks trial that American Bank Plazas management company and owner should have installed a security gate that would have prevented the assault.

(126,244 posts)I know that Nueces, Cameron and Jefferson counties were viewed suspiciously by insurance companies when underwriting policyholders due to large jury awards. The insurance companies argued that the juries were willing to make those awards because it was the equivalent of the entire county winning the lottery since the settlement money would be redistributed to the businesses where they were located.
I guess some people still believe in "trickle-down" economics?
