Vermont lawmakers are back for a veto session this week. Here are the bills they'll consider.
Vermont lawmakers are heading back to work this week as they consider overriding several bills vetoed by Gov. Phil Scott during the 2021 legislative session.
Scott exercised his veto three times in the most recent legislative session, shutting down two charter change proposals that would have allowed noncitizens to vote in local elections in Winooski and Montpelier, as well as a bill that would protect the confidentiality of information regarding juveniles' arrests and charges.
All three bills were vetoed at the beginning of June.
With regards to the Winooski and Montpelier charter change, Scott, a Republican, stated that a "highly variable town-by-town approach" to local voting could create "inconsistency" in statewide election policy.
