From staff reports 7 hrs ago

Two boys are dead and two men are seriously injured after a shooting on Nine Mile Road in Richmond on Friday night.

Richmond police responded at approximately 7:31 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 3000 block of Nine Mile Road, where officers located two adult males and two juvenile males with apparent gunshot wounds. All four victims were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both boys succumb to their injuries at the hospital. The identities and ages of the victims were not released by police on Friday.

"I’m devastated by the tragedy that occurred this evening in our community, two young lives were lost and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims," Mayor Levar Stoney in said a news release on Friday. "We will bring those who perpetrated this horrible crime to justice, and we will strengthen our efforts to curb gun violence and address the root causes that lead to these senseless acts.”

Police chief Gerald M. Smith said in the same news release: “There is a vigorous investigation underway and detectives are working to collect the facts in this case. Gun violence leaves everyone traumatized and we must take a stand against violence together.”

Police said anyone with information about this shooting should call Major Crimes Detective A. Sleem at (804) 814-7123. People with information can also call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or use the P3 Tips Crime Stoppers app. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.

... of black males aren't worked overly hard, and the fact that if they rounded up the guilty parties immediately after each outrage it wouldn't stop the carnage.

Only policing youth violence isn't reducing the problem.

3. I live close enough that I could've heard the shots

were it not for the fact that I was out. There is not a night - not one - that I don't hear gunfire nearby. Semi-automatics seem to be de rigueur and nobody is apparently happy until they've unloaded their clip. Contrary to the oft repeated slogan, nothing matters. The public housing "neighborhoods", of which there are 3 in our 2 mile radius, are almost "No Go Zones" -especially after sunset. The surrounding streets and the zillions of convivence stores that line them are areas to be avoided unless you need a fix or to settle a score. The lawlessness that prevails is very reminiscent of the wild west. Guns rule the day and the town marshal is feckless in the face of the problem. Everybody pussyfoots around the issue. All we hear is the "thoughts and prayers crap, the obligatory outrage, and the false hope that witnesses will come forward. It's absurd.

Our country is not ready to see that…..yet. Plus it would be a very dangerous job.

7. Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume that most of the violence isn't caused by outsiders

Rhetorical question.

What is the explanation for the prevalent lawlessness you mentioned?
