Certain animals are not considered exotic as long as they are domestically bred such as ferrets, rabbits, chinchillas, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice, rats, imported birds, non-venomous reptiles, amphibians and fish.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) After much deliberation over the subject, Richmond City Council has voted to ban exotic pets in the city.
The ordinance which makes it illegal to own, buy breed or sell animals such as monkeys, wolves, bears and wild cats passed through consent agenda during Richmond City Councils meeting on the evening of Monday, July 24.

(2,520 posts)I've known multiple dog rescue people who have rescued and retrained dogs previously owned by people who didn't want to invest time in their dogs. We've been the end recipient of 3 abused dogs over the years from them with ultimately greatful pooches. As the trainers have said, there are two ends to a leash.

(4,818 posts)Pits have the physical jaw, muscle and skull structure to do a lot of damage quickly, and were bred for fighting. Owners who bob ears and tails for fighting don't help. Dog behavior largely reflects responsible human attitudes, but breeds have characteristics, like herding, retrieving, and fighting.
I'm working with a highly traumatized rescue dog now. Big progress.
