Virginia joins request to American Bar Association to drop its DEI standards
Virginia AG Jason Miyares signs letter with 20 Republican peers asking ABA to drop diversity and inclusion standards for law schools.
BY: ALIXEL CABRERA - JUNE 12, 2024 5:49 AM
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares signed a letter with 20 of his Republican counterparts asking the American Bar Association to drop its diversity and inclusion standards for law schools.
DEI efforts implemented in the schools directs their administrators to violate both the Constitution and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin, the states argued.
The letter comes a year after the U.S. Supreme Courts decision in a lawsuit against Harvard College that dictated students must be considered based on their experiences as an individual and not on their race. The decision led higher institutions to stop affirmative action policies, and many states since then have passed laws restricting DEI programs.

(195,568 posts)2. Miyares is going to run for Governor
This DEI crap is still a hot topic in the VA GOP. The morning power radio talk station host made a big deal about DEI (especially at VMI) a few months ago. Theres some talk the radio host will run for Lt. Governor.
Sounds like Miyares is hitting a touchstone before the primaries and maybe the radio host on the ticket is part of the plan.
The radio host is a former Sen. Allen staffer. Gay and married to a black guy. Son of a longtime GA legislator.
