BRITE Bus offering fare-free rides on Election Day

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) - BRITE Bus, a transit service that goes through Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro, will be fare-free Tuesday, Nov. 4, for Election Day.

All routes will be free with the exception of the Afton Express route. Danielle Gannon, transit planner for the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission, said transportation is a barrier for people to go vote and do other things, like getting to appointments.

“We are just thankful to be able to do our small part and offer fare-free [rides] so folks can access the polls,” Gannon said.

Gannon said rides are free all day, even if riders are not going to vote. The bus will still operate its regular routes and same hours, with routes covering most polling locations in the BRITE service area, Gannon added.

I've lived in various places that do that.

I'm currently in a senior living facility in Santa Fe, NM. They'll be taking a bus to a polling place tomorrow mid-morning.

This is an extremely liberal part of a very liberal state, and I overhear interesting conversations in the restaurant.

I did live some 18 years in Overland Park, KS, and learned not to express my political feelings at all for the most part.
