RICHMOND The National Association of Realtors disclosed a $40,000 donation to House Speaker William J. Howell on Tuesday about a month ahead of his closely watched primary election.
The Republican, a 27-year veteran of the House of Delegates, is facing his former protege and a one-time candidate for lieutenant governor, Susan Stimpson, to represent a district spanning Fredericksburg and Stafford County. The primary is June 9.

Howell has touted his opposition to Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffes goal of expanding Medicaid to 400,000 uninsured Virginians and has raised far more money than Stimpson.
The Virginia chapter of the National Association of Realtors, which tends to support incumbents, asked its national political arm to make the in-kind donation of $40,000 in online advertising, as reported by the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP).
