Virginia
Related: About this forumJust voted at my polling place in No. VA.
They had 4 people doing check in and had about 15 stations to fill out the paper ballot. Then they had 2 optical scanners. The scanners retain the paper copies.
Voted at 7 am which is a little later than normal for me. Was voter #179 on the scanner I used.
Translation: big morning turnout.
Go Democrats!

(12,051 posts)I was the 434th person to vote. I mentioned to the election worker that 'wow, a lot more than usual have voted' and he said, yes, it has been very steady throughout the morning. In my experience from past years, less than 100 people would have voted by this time at this location. SO -- turnout so far is quite good.
Another thing I noticed was that the Dems had an elaborate table with leaflets and 3 workers (the usual setup would be one person handing out the paper with the Dem names on it). One of the races had the R candidate running unopposed, and the Dem representative told me they were asking every Dem to write in the Dem candidate's name she had written on her handout. I did, of course.
There were twice as many cars driving in and out as is usually seen in an off-year election.
The bad news is that it is supposed to start raining in an hour or so. I have no idea what that will do to turnout. I hope people are pissed off enough to just bring an umbrella . . .

(12,051 posts)red, although this election had brought out some Dems who have obviously been hiding. Obama won this county, mainly because every formerly discouraged black resident got galvanized to come out for a historic vote. But otherwise, it's red.
Another positive development is that the Dem candidates all had yard signs to distribute!!! I've been screaming about that to the candidates over the years, and it looks like other people have been asking for yard signs too. In this off-year election, I actually saw lots of yard signs for our candidates. It was beautiful.

(57,425 posts)There were a few people in line when I left. Polling place worker said how many had voted. I've already forgotten, but it was several hundred -- 600, 900.
As I walked past the party workers' tables on the way in, a small dog, a little white Shih Tzu kind of a thing, took offense and barked at me. On the way out, I saw it was the Republicans' dog. The pink bow should have given it away. I know they can detect Terminators.
I filled in my ballot with Monk-like precision. There's no way it didn't scan correctly.
It was dry and chilly; about 45 degrees F and 32% relative humidity. I had on a hoodie. Rain is forecast for mid-day. Don't let that stop you.
Vote as if your life depends on it. It does.

(4,875 posts)no line, in and out, I was #705. Not sure if this is good or bad since we moved in January, (second time voting there, first time was the primary). Go Dems!

(9,688 posts)I've been very nervous about this election: I wish I were still a Virginia voter so that I could add to the margin of (please God) victory instead of just sending a little bit of money and biting my nails
All fingers and toes crossed that we pull this off.
The GOTV operation seems very organized. I sure hope it's going to prove as effective as it seems.
