Retiring Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Bill Howell, R-Stafford, had emergency heart surgery Tuesday night after suffering chest pains, according to a spokesman.
"The surgeons report the procedure went well, but the speaker will be in {the} ICU for a few days," Moran said. "The family is asking for prayers for a quick and strong recovery, as well as privacy so the speaker can continue to rest." Howell is at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
