Woman claims signature was forged on Shaun Brown petition; she's suing for $2.4M
NORFOLK -- A Virginia Beach woman has filed a $2.4 million lawsuit against a campaign worker for U.S. Rep. Scott Taylor after her name appeared on an election petition for Shaun Brown, according to a complaint filed in Norfolk Circuit Court late last week.
In the lawsuit, Susan Lambert claims her name was used without her consent on the petition. The signatures were gathered by Roberta Marciano in the days leading up to the June 12 filing deadline for candidates running in the states 2nd Congressional District.
Taylor has acknowledged that he knew his campaign workers were collecting signatures for Brown, but he said it was only to assure her place on the ballot with him and Democrat Elaine Luria.
Marciano is Taylors regional field director in charge of recruitment, event management and political outreach for his campaign, according to the lawsuit.
