WSDOT Asks Drivers To Prepare Early For Snow And Ice
With winter temperatures drawing closer by the day, Washington transportation officials are urging drivers to prepare themselves and their vehicles before driving on snow or ice.
"Our crews are ready for winter and work hard to keep roads clear, but as last winter showed, any part of the state can experience severe weather and we need the public's help as well," said James Morin, Maintenance Operations Manager for WSDOT.
"Most pass closures are due to spin outs or crashes from vehicles traveling too fast or not having proper winter equipment," Morin said.
WINTER DRIVING TIPS
Drivers are encouraged to carry chains or approved alternatives whenever crossing mountain passes. Failure to obey tire chain restrictions mean a ticket up to $500 and WSP emphasis patrols will be searching for violators.
Studded tires are legal in Washington from November 1st to March 31st, but transportation officials recommend looking at alternative traction tires that cause less damage to the roads.
