A win for Attorney General Ferguson: Judge blocks 3-D 'plastic gun' blueprints

The Trump Administration violated the law when it decided to allow blueprints of 3-D printed "plastic guns" to be released online, a U.S. District Judge in Seattle ruled Tuesday.

Judge Robert Lasnik issued a summary judgment, meaning the case will not even go to trial. The judge's decision bans what threatened to be unlimited distribution on the internet for 3-D printed guns that are untraceable and undetectable, saying the administration acted in a way that was arbitrary, capricious and unlawful.

A Texas anarchist and gun rights advocate, Cody Wilson, has made it a crusade to publish blueprints. He heralded "the age of downloadable guns" when the administration agreed to allow publication. In July of 2018, Judge Lasnik issued a temporary national injunction blocking Wilson's plans to publish.

The publication of "plastic gun" blueprints has seen back and forth legal action, and a complete reversal of position by the Trump Administration.
