Icy roads in Kitsap County prompt widespread delays, school closures

Central Kitsap School District called off classes for a second day on Tuesday as a result of a cold snap bringing snow and ice this week. Bremerton, North Kitsap, South Kitsap and Bainbridge Island school districts also announced schools would be closed, updated early Tuesday from calls for a late start.

"While main roads are looking good, our neighborhoods are very icy throughout the district. We want to be sure our students and staff are safe," North Kitsap officials said on Facebook.

Olympic College's Poulsbo and Shelton campuses were closed, the college announced in an update at 7 a.m. The Bremerton campus will be closed as well, the college announced on Tuesday morning, after initially calling for a 10 a.m. opening.

North Mason was on a two-hour delay on Tuesday morning.

The problem isn't the snow, but the frozen slush on the roads. Many businesses are sending people home early also, before it freezes after dark.
