Get ready, Washington voters: Ballots arriving this month for 2020 presidential primary

Iowa may be in the news for its "first in the nation" caucus and the failed voting app, but it won't be long before Washington voters weigh who they want to cast their vote for during the presidential primary season.

Washington state’s presidential primary will be held March 10, but ballots in the all-mail election will be sent out Feb. 21. The Legislature in 2019 voted to move the state's presidential primaries from May to March to give voters here more influence in selecting the nominees for each party.

In prior presidential election years, state Democrats have used the caucus to select their nominee, and the results from a later primary were disregarded. This year, both Republicans and Democrats will allocate delegates to candidates at their respective national conventions based on the results of the state's primaries.

While caucuses — like those in Iowa — are coordinated by political parties, Washington’s primaries will be administered by the Secretary of State's Office and county elections offices. Paper ballots will be mailed in or dropped off at ballot drop boxes by voters. All the ballots will go through a counting machine at the county elections office, which will categorize them and give a tally for each candidate.

For just one. Jay was the only candidate I had passion for. Still undecided, but will come down to either Liz or Amy.
