Regional council seeks proposals for $550M transit project funding
The Puget Sound Regional Council is offering $550 million in federal funds to transportation projects that will meet the long-term travel demands to the regions urban centers.
The council is in charge of dispersing the regional funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), which will be available in 2023 and 2024. Its seeking transportation project proposals that support housing, employment, equity, accessibility, safety and emissions reduction.
FTA is providing about $382.3 million and FWHA is providing about $166.8 million toward the projects.
Documents show the regional council is seeking project proposals adjacent to dense, mixed-use areas where the improvements could retain or expand employment and housing opportunities. Transportation options are large influences on where Puget Sound companies locate their offices. Projects should also help businesses draw its workforce and customer base from wider geographies.
