Seattle ranks among the most walkable cities in the US
Between the traffic, steep hills and crumbly roads, walking might be the preferred mode of transit in Seattle. And data from Walk Score, a website that crunches numbers to calculate a city's walkability, ranks the Emerald City as the eighth most walker-friendly city in the country.
"We believe that walkable neighborhoods with access to public transit, better commutes, and proximity to the people and places you love are the key to a happier, healthier and more sustainable lifestyle," wrote Walk Score. "Seattle has a vocal, politically active population thats singularly focused on keeping the city pedestrian, bicycle, and transit friendly, even while it grows."
Seattle earned a walk score of 74, a transit score of 60 and a bike score of 70. It was the 7th most transit friendly city, and the 7th most bike friendly city.
The top ranked city in their study was New York, which earned a walk score of 88, a transit score of 84 and a bike score 70, making it the most walkable and transit friendly city. However, Minneapolis snagged the highest rank for being bike friendly with a score of 84.
