Coronavirus concerns making lasting economic impact in Seattle

SEATTLE — So far Washington State has had just one confirmed case of coronavirus.

But our region is feeling the impact in another way – economics.

Over the last decade Seattle has experienced an explosion in Chinese tourism. But now that’s all come to a halt with no flights from mainland China bound for the Seattle.

At Pike Place Market the coveted throwing of the fish is a favorite for visitors. It was no different in 2013 for a group Chinese tourists visiting the Emerald City.

The travelers where on tour with Seattle May Travel, a local company serving Chinese visitors that today has no business.
