Suspect killed in gun battle with state troopers in Purdy
PURDY, Wash. -- A gun battle between Washington State troopers and a man Thursday evening ended with the suspect being shot to death.
Troopers tried to pull over a driver in a pickup truck for an unspecified reason in Bremerton just before 9 p.m. when the suspect led drove off, leading troopers on a brief chase, according to Det. Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
During the chase the man eventually crashed and his truck rolled into a ditch at SR 302 and 154th St NW in Purdy.
The driver started firing at troopers when they approached the vehicle, Troyer said. Troopers returned fire, killing the driver. The man's identity has not been released.
