Is your driver's license compliant? Washington's deadline for REAL ID compliance is Oct. 1.
BREMERTON As of Oct. 1, U.S. travelers won't be able to use standard state-issued driver's licenses or ID cards to clear airport security checkpoints for domestic flights or access certain federal facilities, including military bases.
The new rule stems from the REAL ID Act of 2005, enacted on the recommendation of the 9/11 Commission to establish federal standards for sources of identification, such as drivers licenses.
The goal is greater national security. But some, including a Kitsap immigrant rights group, say the act is discriminatory and liable to lead to privacy breaches.
Members of Kitsap Advocating for Immigrant Rights & Equality were scheduled to demonstrate Friday outside the Bremerton Department of Licensing against REAL ID.
