King County Council approves $28.5M in funding for COVID-19 response
The King County Council approved $28.5 million in funding Tuesday for the countys response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Executive Dow Constantine initiated a state of emergency in the county on March 1 shortly after the first deaths were reported on Feb. 29. The councils action Tuesday builds on that declaration.
Since the first reported death, the county activated the King County Emergency Operations Center. The county councils actions Tuesday extends the emergency proclamation, which allows the protocols to remain in effect and avoid delays in necessary spending.
As each one of us in the community continues to take individual measures to reduce the spread and severity of the outbreak, the county council is doing its part to ensure our government has the resources needed to continue and enhance its responsive capabilities, said Council Chairwoman Claudia Balducci in a statement.
