Seattle Mariners to create fund to support ballpark employees losing pay amid COVID-19

The Seattle Mariners announced Tuesday that they are creating a fund to support the club’s event staff employees who will lose pay because of the postponed MLB games in wake of COVID-19.

The details of the grant were not disclosed in the team statement, but the league announced that each of its 30 clubs would be committing $1 million to cover the lost wages of ballpark employees.

“We understand that this is a difficult time for many seasonal staff who face the possibility of losing work hours,” the Mariners statement read. “With that in mind, our ownership and organization want to provide these deserving Seattle Mariners workers financial support. We are working on details to the grant program now, and will have additional information available once the details are finalized.

“Our thoughts remain with all of our fans, and neighbors, as we navigate this difficult time.”

Everyone sees and hears the vendors but I bet this "fund" will not support VENDORS. Vendors sell soda, beer, etc. at games. They are the "small" businessman who is "invisible" at this time when employment is critical. I worked GIANTS, A's, 49ers, & RAIDERS when I was in high school & college.
