Washington Gov. Jay Inslee says he won't be guided by 'irrational forces' that gamble with health

Gov. Jay Inslee invited critics of his Stay Home-Stay Healthy COVID-19 response to "get on the team," but politely warned of "possible law enforcement" against jurisdictions, public officials and businesses that break the law and violate his order.

The governor, who acted early to stop spread of the coronavirus, said he would not be guided by "irrational forces" that "gamble with our health" -- an obvious reference to two county sheriffs who say they will not enforce his order, and Eastern Washington county commissioners saying they will allow local businesses to reopen.

"Look, this is working, this is saving lives . . . Now is not the time to give up," Inslee said.

The governor's 10-minute speech Tuesday night, speaking of what might be reopened -- but not saying when -- has spawned resistance, both showy and thoughtful.
