Feds give Paine Field $2 million to update master plan
EVERETT Paine Field will receive a $2.1 million federal grant to update the airports master plan, a template used to guide future use and operations at the Snohomish County-owned airport.
But the money cant be used to help with operating expenses, lost revenue or other COVID-19-related expenses at the Everett airport, which received a paltry $157,000 in emergency federal aid earlier this month.
On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded nearly $1.2 billion in annual safety and infrastructure grants to 439 U.S. airports.
The targeted grants are intended to fund a wide range of projects, depending on the recipient, that can include the purchase of aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, construction and repair of runways and taxiways, the installation of lighting and signage, and updates to airport planning.
