EVERETT Thousands of Snohomish County residents are losing their health insurance along with their jobs, as restrictions ushered by the coronavirus pandemic have left businesses bleeding revenues.
From mid-March to mid-April, the rate of uninsured people in Washington surged from about 6.7% to more than 10%. Thats according to a recent state analysis that made estimations based on census data and unemployment application figures.
Snohomish County saw the biggest jump of any of the states 39 counties, with the uninsured rate almost doubling from 7% before the pandemic to nearly 13% as of April 18, according to the report by the Office of Financial Managements Forecasting and Research Division.
There are more patients who have lost insurance because theyve lost their job, said Dr. Audrey Gray, a physician at Sea Mar Community Health Centers Marysville medical clinic. On a daily basis, I hear those stories.
