Jefferson County has had its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a month, community transmitted

Jefferson County has had its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a month. The woman in her 90s has been hospitalized in Jefferson Healthcare hospital.

Dr. Tom Locke, Jefferson County health officer, said the case, the 29th confirmed in Jefferson County, was reported Friday night. Locke said she is in stable condition. He added that the case, the first to be hospitalized at Jefferson Healthcare, appears to have been locally transmitted.

Jefferson County was one of 10 rural counties given the opportunity by Gov. Jay Inslee’s office to apply for an early waiver from the Phase 1 restrictions, which could allow some businesses in the county to open before the May 31 deadline for moving to Phase 2.

One of the criteria for moving to Phase Two early was a lack of new cases reported for three weeks....

Those of us, and I'm one, who want a slower approach with testing and isolation of those infected will have to stay inside much longer. It will be hard but if we hide others who don't want to will get sick and either recover or die. They will be the herd. Then we can come out carefully.
