North Cascades National Park complex reopens -- but not very much
The North Cascades National Park complex is reopening in a limited way.
The park announced that three popular overlooks along state Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, will reopen on Friday. They are the Diablo Lake, Ross Lake, and Gorge Creek Falls overlooks.
The park system's trails will open for day use only: Many have not been assessed or cleared of winter blowdown. A north entrance to the park complex, at Hozomeen on the Canadian border, will be open sort of. The international border gate will remain closed. The area is accessed out of British Columbia and used mainly by Canadians enjoying a provincial park in the Skagit Valley above the Ross Lake reservoir.
The Stehekin marina and public docks, at the head of Lake Chelan, will open for day use only. So will boat launching facilities on Diablo and Ross Lakes.
