SEATTLE - A building that once housed a popular cafe in Seattle's Lower Queen Anne neighborhood burned to the ground overnight, fire officials said.
Crews responded to the scene, on Elliott Avenue West and Harrison Street, at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of smoke and flames coming from the structure.
The building was fully ablaze when firefighters arrived on scene. Crews sprayed water on the fire, but the building eventually collapsed.
The fire is now out.

(922 posts)The shanty was old school Seattle all the way. Very few places left of what made Seattle a cool place growing up.
A great breakfast dive. The doghouse, Beths cafe all gone.

(6,530 posts)It's been a sad relic there on Elliott for months. Maybe years.
Beth's is still here. Voula's is still here. I won't go to Mecca or 5 Point but I think they're still operating.
Close enough for ferryboating, anyway.

(922 posts)I'd go to the shanty for early breakfast and beat the traffic. My understanding is beths had been sold to a developer.
Glad to hear its still open.
