Trans-pride flag flies briefly over courthouse in rural Washington, celebrating LGBTQ ruling

A transgender activist and U.S. Army veteran raised a Trans-pride flag over the Ferry County Courthouse in remote Republic, Washington on Monday, celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that employers cannot fire workers because of sexual orientation or gender identity.

"Originally I planned to raise it in defiance of the Trump administration's decision to legalize faith-based discrimination in health care for the LGBTQ community," Jaina Bledsoe explained.

"I reached out and notified the county sheriff in advance, only to discover they had tied the ropes about 10-12 feet higher today . . . I simply chuckled to myself that someone must believe I've never heard of a ladder and went home and fetched one — more determined than ever."

The flag was removed in less than two hours, despite a polite request by Bledsoe to the sheriff that it be allowed to fly until the end of the business day.
