City considering ideas to allow more drivers to use lower bridge in West Seattle

SEATTLE — Good news could be coming for West Seattle drivers.

The City of Seattle is considering some ideas that would allow more motorists to use the lower bridge after the West Seattle Bridge closed March 23 because of excessive creaking.

The Seattle Department of Transportation will present the ideas Wednesday to the West Seattle Bridge Community Task Force for consideration.

“It’s a pain,” said West Seattle resident Dean Shute about the traffic in and out of the neighborhood of 80,000 people.

Currently the low bridge now only serves transit, freight, and emergency vehicles.
