'There's a limit': Residents on edge, city leaders mum after deadly CHOP shooting

SEATTLE – With growing fear and frustration from neighbors following a deadly shooting near ‘CHOP,’ the ‘Capitol Hill Occupied Protest’ early Saturday morning, city leaders have remained nearly silent Sunday.

A 19-year-old man was killed after gunfire erupted at around 2:20 a.m. Medics from ‘CHOP’ rushed him to the hospital where he later died. A second shooting about a half hour later and a block away. That man, who’s 33-years-old, remains in critical condition in the ICU at Harborview.

Mayor Jenny Durkan released a brief statement saying she had been in contact with the fire and police chiefs, adding “the primary duty of SFD and SPD is to ensure public safety in all parts of the city.” Aside from that, she’s said nothing more.

“I would invite Mayor Durkan to spend one night in the ‘CHOP’ area,” said a man who lives near the zone. “And she can feel for herself what it’s like.”

for not shutting this freak show down long ago. Even Portland and Asheville dismantled their "zones".

If folks want to build a commune then need to buy their own damn land and start it, don't hold resident's lives hostage so they can have their "love fest".

otherwise the city should buy all the land up there and relocate everyone at the city's expense.

and find it frustrating that DU seems to be the only place covering this story. The networks seem to give this story all of 30 seconds to maybe a minute. While I dislike Trump I would gladly give up one to two minutes of his coming to AZ later this week for more on what is happening in CHOP.

They are going to say "Look, this is what happens when the left is in charge." We need Democrats to go in there and convince these guys to end this nonsense or make sure the public knows that these people are not a part of any Democrat movements.
