Hundreds of businesses in West Seattle affected by bridge closure

Hundreds of stores and restaurants all over West Seattle are feeling the impact of the high bridge closure.

Many businesses depend on customers from all over the region who may not be willing to fight the traffic to get the peninsula.

“Other people are getting excited about the Phase 2 reopening, we are excited about doing those things as well but we know we are five to seven years from having a bridge that allows us to get back to full operations,” said Dan Austin, owners of Peel & Press in the Morgan Junction and also a board member for the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce.

Under the shadow of the bridge at Avalon Glassworks, the doors remain closed to customers but the kiln is fired and business is going well.

COVID-19 forced a change that is now helping the business navigate the bridge closure.

“We are changing our business model to sell more online and less over the counter,” said owner Shannon Felix.
