Lewis County Sheriff pushes back on the governor's mask mandate

As the Friday start of the Governor’s statewide mask mandate approaches, there is push back from a top law enforcement official.

It comes from Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza.

While addressing a group of citizens Snaza is seen on a video expressing his concerns about the mandate.

He said over a bullhorn, “In case you guys didn’t hear, Governor Inslee in his infinite wisdom has decided after over 100 some odd days that we should all wear face masks inside and out. Here’s what I say. ‘Don’t be a sheep.’”

Gov. Insee said, “Look, I’m disappointed. I think people who are law abiding like those who are wearing their seatbelts because it’s law and it’s safe and those who are wearing facemasks because it is also law and it’s safe. I just don’t agree calling those folks barnyard animals.”

Lewis County is probably the reddest on the west side. It's home of the goofy Uncle Sam billboard you see from I-5.

Lewis County is one of the redder counties on this side of the state so that is one of the explanations.

I actually get embarrassed telling people that I live in this county.

the ability of a Governor or Mayor to suspend or fire police chiefs whoo refuse to follow the law.
The are of course tasked with enforcing the law aren't they?

A sheriff’s department can be worse than police because they are elected and that can make some arrogant and can decide what laws to enforce.

That’s not their role. That’s what the courts are for.

A sheriff who publicly says he will not enforce a law should be removed, and I’m pretty sure every state has a way to do that. In Florida it’s the Governor. In Mass. it’s the state Supreme Court.

you end up with a lawless society.
No wonder we have dangerous and racist cops.
These rebel sheriffs need to be thrown out of office.
