Force might be necessary to take back East Precinct from protesters, expert says

With the future of CHOP uncertain, one law enforcement expert is concerned force may be the only way to return the East Precinct to police.

Jesus Villahermosa is a retired sergeant with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and has been considered a use of force expert for decades.

"I just think there's going to have to be action that is taken at some point if there isn't a breakthrough," he said.

And that action, to Villahermosa, involves using force.

"If force has to be used then force has to be used so long as it's necessary and reasonable," Villahermosa said.

He said the recent violence and the continuing presence of CHOP mean negotiations between protesters and the city aren't accomplishing much.

Let's play police state! Bring the war back home where it belongs.

Empires do tend to turn in on their own people for easy pickings.

The people are encouraged to think that all the violence overseas is reserved for foreigners right up to the point that its far too late to stop it and even if they see signs that should be taken seriously, (oh, like militarizing the police, etc.)

There is a lot more to this policing issue and the overt, constant brutality than meets the eye. The abuse and targeting of black people is never acceptable and has to be stopped. It also provides an inroad for expanding the police state.

CHOP is may be pivotal here.

Someone who has been 'a use of force expert for decades' will have been involved in training police to the brutal tactics that have been employed against peaceable protests routinely.

Lenin's comment that 'the soundest policy is to postpone operations till the moral disintegration of the enemy renders success certain' would seem apt here. The 'occupation' is losing steam by the day, even by the hour. Sensible people are finding the company of loons uncomfortable, locals are turning against the thing, opinion in the city at large has ceased to be supportive. Fairly soon, once an obvious hard-core element is all the remains, it would be appropriate for police to move in, in great numbers, relying solely on their mass for effect. If they act with restraint, it will be obvious it is not they but the remnant die-hards who have initiated any violence, and if police can manage to restrain themselves and use only the minimal force necessary for self-defense, they will enjoy community support throughout the city and the country as well.

I was pretty much a supporter of CHOP till people started getting hurt.

The supporters should declare victory and go home. This does not mean they should give up on their cause but they need to be realistic about what works and what doesn't.
