Yakima County Sheriff, YPD will not stop, cite or arrest those who don't comply with mask mandate

Yakima County Sheriff Bob Udell said his office will not cite people who choose not to wear masks, despite a statewide mandatory masking policy that takes effect Friday.

Neither will the Yakima Police Department.

Udell announced Thursday that his office will not be stopping, citing or arresting people who do not comply with a state-issued directive from Washington Gov. Jay Inslee that people in public need to wear masks when social distancing is not possible.

Udell said his stance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been to educate and engage residents, rather than issue fees or citations for noncompliance.

Yakima County has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Only King County is higher but their population is 2.23 million so proportionately Yakima has it worse.

What a POS.

Another unpatriotic and dishonorable American who is helping to create and enforce a deadly, false narrative.

Here we go again with someone who's job is only to enforce the law, but appoints himself to be some some form of legislature. He should be fired for that reason alone.

His refusal to follow the law is not only assumptive and arrogant, but it is also a threat to public health and safety. Now, what's the purpose of his job, again?

What's his stance on doing anything while black?

this pandemic to go on unchecked. All the scientist advise masks for everyone but these a-hole law enforcement authorities won't enforce the ban.

So stupid. They're going along with trump who they think is being tough in not wearing a mask, when in fact he won't were one because it will reveal and smear his make-up.

Too many Americans are stupid fucks.

Just ridiculous. I don't except police to be running around spending all their time giving tickets for non-mask wearers (they are too busy trying to find people to pepper spray anyway), but to announce you don't intend to enforce is foolish.

Ah yes, the "Palm Springs of Washington", percentage wise, has the highest infection rate in the state.
