Tom Douglas will not renew lease, permanently closes two South Lake Union restaurants

Tom Douglas, Seattle chef and restaurateur, will not renew the lease of two South Lake Union restaurants near Amazon, his company Tom Douglas Seattle Kitchen announced.

Trattoria Cuoco and Brave Horse Tavern located on Terry Avenue North will close permanently as of July 15.

“Many factors weighed into the determination, but in the end, it is the appropriate choice for our business,” Douglas said in a press release. “This journey would not have been possible without the support of Amazon, both as our landlord and their team of employees as our loyal customers. We couldn’t have asked for a better landlord and tenant relationship.”

Douglas, like all most if not all Seattle restaurateurs, have been met with significant challenges due to Covid-19. His restaurants were among the first wave of temporary closures in March before Gov. Jay Inslee ordered indoor dining to cease on March 16.
