Air quality in Puget Sound region reaches 'unhealthy' levels as wildfires burn across West Coast

Air quality conditions in the Puget Sound area are expected to decline Friday and into the weekend as wildfires across the West Coast continue to devastate the region.

The National Weather Service said air quality conditions in the area were ranging from "unhealthy" to "hazardous" Friday afternoon.

"Smoke will continue to worsen tonight into Saturday before a gradual improving trend begins early Sunday. Visibility will be poor in spots with dense smoke a possibility," NWS said in a Friday afternoon update. "A frontal system will spread showers from west to east across Western Washington Monday night through Tuesday, improving the air quality."

NWS also said it had high confidence that even people who are healthy could be at risk for respiratory issues if they are exposed to the smoke for extended periods of time.

...since we've already had two-plus days of that bad air, and it's expected to start clearing out by tomorrow.
