Inslee eases restrictions on weddings, funerals across Washington
Gov. Jay Inslee this week announced looser restrictions on weddings and funerals across Washington as the state began to see a decline in the number of new confirmed novel coronavirus cases.
Under the new restrictions, wedding and funeral receptions will be allowed at limited capacities. Receptions and ceremonies cannot be more than 30 people, or 25% of a venue's occupancy, whichever is less. At the events, people need to sit with members of their households, and no more than five people can be seated at a table.
The updated guidance comes about two months after Inslee put additional restrictions on weddings and funerals as cases of the virus surged across the state. In July, Inslee announced a ban on wedding and funeral receptions. Ceremonies were still allowed to take place indoors but at 20% of a building's occupancy or with a max of 30 people, whichever was less.
In recent weeks, new cases of the virus have been falling across the state, but the rate of community transmission is still high above the state's target of having fewer than 25 new cases per 100,000 people over the previous 14 days. As of Wednesday, Washington had about 80 new cases per 100,000 people over the previous 14 days.
