Smoke expected to start clearing out; weather system to bring isolated thunderstorms, lightning

The air quality in the Seattle area is still hovering at unhealthy levels. But relief is coming.

People in the region can expect rain — and possibly thunderstorms — to start to clearing out the smoke Friday.

"A weather system moving into the region could lead to isolated thunderstorms across Western Washington today. When thunder roars, go indoors!" the National Weather Service tweeted Friday morning.

The NWS warned of brief heavy downpours, small hail and "dangerous" lightning.

near ground zero for some of the fires.

We had rain Monday night during the night. On Tuesday the air was clear for a few hours, then smoke came back in.

Boy - the sound of that rain on our metal roof was a blessing!

We still have smoke. Because we are used to wildfires here, we have really good air cleaners we've collected through the years. Still...outdoor activity quite restricted, and even indoors, I can feel it in a scratchy throat, even sandy eyes and (sorry...gross...!) I believe more "elimination" with my body working to rid itself of the toxins!

We've got a 60% chance of showers tonight! I never hold my breath though...
