King County to offer subsidized transit pass for residents with very low income
Many King County residents with very low or no income will soon have access to free annual transit passes under a new program being piloted by the county and Sound Transit.
The subsidized annual passes which can be used on several different transit services, including King County Metro's buses and Sounds Transit's Link light rail will be available to King, Pierce and Snohomish county residents who can't afford the cost of public transportation and are enrolled in other state benefit programs.
Building off the strong track record of ORCA LIFT and other discounted fare programs, we are proud to announce a new subsidized annual pass to ensure that people with very low or no income are able to ride transit, King County Executive Dow Constantine said.
Our goal is to connect people to the opportunities that enrich their lives, and support their health and well-being. We expect to learn a lot as we implement this program, and we will be sharing our experiences with other communities committed to tackling inequities.
