Many Washington voters opting for ballot drop boxes instead of voting by mail

Ballot boxes around western Washington have been buzzing the last few days as voters rush to return ballots early.

It appears a record number of voters are taking advantage of county ballot drop boxes instead of using the postal service.

At a drop box in Lynnwood on Sunday, many had different reasons for coming out.

Kathy Madin is a nurse and said the election is extremely important because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I felt more comfortable dropping it off here and it saves money,” explained Madin, dropping off her ballot in a drop box.

After reports of mail thieves in Sammamish, and then ballots found on the side of the road in Snoqualmie, some voters admit they just want to make sure they get counted.

I live in the county seat, just ten minutes from the office. Not trusting any ballot boxes.

I checked at the website https://voter.votewa.gov/WhereToVote.aspx today and it shows that my husband and my ballots are at STATUS: ACCEPTED which I think means the signatures on the outside envelope were matched successfully.

As we were parking someone had just dropped off a ballot, and as I walked up to the box another person came up and also dropped a ballot, and as I was leaving another one came up. Pretty busy dropbox for a mid-morning Monday!

Checked with King County Elections and it shows that our ballots were received, verified, and counted.

...parking lot. I got out and took a photo while hubby put our ballots in the box and there were FOUR more cars behind us. Someone honked and I thought 'geez lets move along ppl are pissed and honking'...but the more I thought about it, i think it was a honk of support as its on a busy corner (for the burg) And because NO ONE was behind us when we pulled up I didnt put on my Stacy Abrams purple VOTE mask.

dang.
