More Washington voters have cast ballots already than ever before

More Washington voters have already cast ballots in the 2020 general election than the total number in 2016 — or any past year's election.

As of Monday night, 3,545,289 voters had already turned in their ballots ahead of Election Day.

In 2016, 3,392,275 ballots were cast in the presidential race, about 79% of active voters. In the 2012 presidential race, 3,172,939 ballots were cast, about 81% of voters at the time.

The number of registered voters is larger this year, though, than it was in 2016 and 2012, meaning Washington hasn't yet exceeded the highest percentage of voters turning out for an election. But it could.
