Stormy days ahead: Front brings strong gusts, mountain snow to Washington ahead of Thanksgiving

Ready your umbrellas and raincoats, Seattleites, the city is in for a rainy, gusty couple of days ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday that will bring chillier temperatures.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicted rain and wind will arrive in Western Washington Tuesday afternoon and last through the evening. Currently, coastal areas such as Port Townsend and Whidbey Island were expecting 35-40 mph gusts. There were no wind advisories in effect.

While winds are expected to pick up in the afternoon, the Puget Sound area will likely not experience those massive gusts and instead see winds between 20-25 mph, according to current predictions.

Lowland rain and snow at the pass level will accompany the wind. Through Wednesday morning, Steven Pass was expected to see 6-8 inches of snow, while both Snoqualmie and White Pass were expected to see 4-6 inches.
