King, other counties can reopen dining, gyms under Washington's new reopening plan next week
Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday announced seven counties, including King, Pierce and Snohomish, would be able to move forward to Phase 2 of the state's reopening plan beginning Monday.
The counties are represented in two of the state's regions -- the Puget Sound and West regions -- which are part of the state's new phased reopening plan that looks at four different metrics across eight regions instead of a county-by-county approach.
During a news conference Thursday, Inslee said regions can now advance to Phase 2 if they meet at least three instead of all four metrics originally needed to move forward -- making the two regions eligible.
"We're making some real progress in our fight against COVID-19," Inslee said. "Good news overall our case trends are declining and our hospital capacity is easing...so we are comfortable making these changes and allowing some further reopening."
