Snoqualmie Pass to reopen at 3 p.m. after avalanche threat, risk of wrecks

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- Snow may be done in the lowlands but blizzard-like conditions were continuing in the mountains with heavy snows and extreme avalanche danger forcing the closure of I-90 though Snoqualmie Pass Monday night into midday Tuesday, stranding drivers.

WSDOT officials told KOMO News that they planned to reopen both directions of the Snoqualmie Pass at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

For people at the Snoqualmie Pass ski resort, it was a race to get off the mountain Monday evening.

In 30 years as a truck driver, Merle Bentley can’t remember a winter like this.

“It’s been a nightmare all the way,” Bentley said. “This is the winter that goes down in history. I’m telling you that right now. It is going to go down in history—as the worst winter ever.”
