Seattle awards over $2.3 million to child care providers amid pandemic

SEATTLE - The city of Seattle is awarding more than $2.3 million in grants to 506 child care providers through the city's Child Care Stabilization Fund, Mayor Jenny Durkan announced Tuesday.

The funds will go to 344 licensed child care providers and school-age programs as well as 162 family, friend, and neighbor caregivers.

The money is intended to help alleviate economic hardship due to COVID-19 in the child care industry.

“Our center has been substantially impacted by the economic downturn COVID-19 has caused," said Lois Martin with the Community Day Center for Children, which received one of the grants. "We are grateful to the city of Seattle for ... understanding the need and supplying our industry with a financial lifeline."
