As coronavirus vaccinations continue in King County, issues of equity remain
King County over the past several weeks has ramped up its vaccination efforts, setting up mobile and popup clinics and working with community organizations to reach the highest risk members of the community -- all while grappling with a limited vaccine supply.
But throughout the county's rollout, issues of equity have persisted.
Communities of color and neighborhoods with lower median incomes have been vaccinated at lower rates than white people and those who live in wealthier areas.
"I'm very encouraged to see more and more people who are at high risk and who are eligible getting vaccinated, but we continue to see disturbing inequities in vaccine access," Jeff Duchin of Public Health -- Seattle & King County said during a news briefing Friday. "White residents are overrepresented among those with one dose compared to most communities of color."
