Uwajimaya CEO explores Eastside for possible 5th location

Uwajimaya President and CEO Denise Moriguchi is on the hunt for a fifth Asian grocery store location, which would thrust the small business into new territory.

Moriguchi, the third-generation owner, isn't going to let increased business costs “paralyze” the 93-year-old chain’s growth. She's set on establishing another location the Eastside.

“The population there could definitely support another Uwajimaya,” Moriguchi said. “We want to continue our legacy and continue serving our customers. ... We’re in it for the long haul.”

Uwajimaya has its flagship store in Seattle along with locations in Bellevue, Renton and Beaverton, Oregon.
