Art Langlie weighs run for Seattle mayor, a post his grandfather held

The Langlie name is on the cusp of possibly rejoining Seattle's political conversation for the first time in decades.

Arthur K. Langlie — the grandson of former mayor and governor Arthur B. Langlie — said he has been seriously considering a run for mayor since last summer. Now the Holmes Electric executive vice president and longtime Salvation Army Board member is putting out feelers, listening to citizens' concerns and doing other research to begin promulgating plans.

"I really think anybody who's going to take on this job has to have a plan," said Langlie, who sees city leadership as "adrift and pretty unfocused. ... We need new ideas and energy that I think I would bring to the party."

He said he is leaning toward running and expects to decide around the end of March or beginning of April. Incumbent Jenny Durkan is not seeing reelection, and 12 people have filed to run, with City Council President M. Lorena González the best known.

12 people running? Name recognition is going to be important if that's the case. Sounds like an argument for ranked choice voting.
