Seattle leads other major US cities in containing Covid-19 cases, mayor's office says

It has been a full year since the first reported Covid-19 death in the U.S. occurred in King County and life in and around Seattle irrevocably changed.

Offices closed and people started to work from home. There were rushes on hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Facial masks were in short supply. Isolation and grief rocked the community, and the ripple effects of Covid-19 lockdowns exposed inequities within Black, Indigenous and Latinx communities.

"It has been an enormously hard year. Everybody has been impacted — every family and every business," Durkan said in an interview with the Business Journal.

In terms of suppressing the virus, Seattle has the lowest number of cases per-capital among 30 major cities, according to data provided by the mayor's office.
